Journey through the Inner Landscape
As a recent survivor of cancer, I know the trepidation about facing surgery and treatment. I was very relieved this May to hear good news again after recent tests and scans. No signs of the cancer having returned. But even as I read the report, part of me wonders "What about next time? What else can I do to ward off cancer? I know I’m not alone. Each time a survivor of a life threatening illness( like cancer)returns for follow-up medical tests, our stress rises with questions of “What if…?” While facing the unknown I have turned more to meditation and visualization, focusing on healthy habits and imaginings rather than lingering in fear and negative thoughts. Now I continue to paint these small watercolors and pen work which show colorful healthy cells in the body. These little works have turned into painting meditations for me where I can focus on gratitude and attention to health. I can focus on the inner landscape of breast cells, uterus cells, bladder, stomach, colon, skin and muscles as I grieve, and celebrate my body and continuing life force. Now I’ve framed them in simple white frames to hang in doctors’ offices, clinics, and medical facilities in my city to brighten the walls of what often can be described as sterile settings. If you go to my online shop you can order prints and cards of these colorful abstracts to inspire friends and family. I appreciate this online community. So, if you have suggestions of medical facilities in your communities that might host my gallery of prints, contact me with the names and I’ll share the information about this series of images with them.
